When Eva is, against all rules, allowed to spend Christmas with her family, it comes as no surprise that her boss has ulterior motives. All the same, he gives her assignments that are every bit as shockingly personal as the diary that landed her in the trenches of WWI.
Cael is challenging her, but she has bigger fish to fry: re-reading an old toy from her youth has put her childhood memories in mindboggling new perspectives. Between this and actually doing her job, Eva has to navigate a truant assassin, the recurring smell of ozone, and the real reason behind Maureen’s recent fixation on a mysterious artefact in the Institute’s collection.
While she wonders about where to find the missing pieces of this puzzle, her psychometric ability throws a curve ball no one saw coming. Least of all the one who posed the challenge…
